Makita recipro saw blade B-05038, Express bi-metal, for fast cuts in metal. Universal shank, fitting Makita reciprocating saws and other sabre saws with a standard fitting.
What Express means here
The Express blades are built for cutting speed in metal rather than maximum blade life. The tooth geometry takes a bigger bite per stroke, so you get through pipe, conduit, angle and light section noticeably faster — at the cost of wearing out sooner than a standard bi-metal blade would. On a job with a lot of repetitive cuts, the time saved is usually worth more than the blade.
Getting the best from it
- Three teeth in the cut, minimum. On thin-wall pipe and conduit this is the rule that stops teeth stripping.
- Moderate speed. Fast cutting still generates heat, and heat is what finishes a metal blade.
- Keep the shoe pressed to the work so the saw cuts rather than hammers.
- Deburr afterwards — a fast cut leaves more burr than a slow one.
