Makita recipro saw blade B-16857, bi-metal, for metal tube. Universal shank, fitting Makita reciprocating saws and other sabre saws with a standard fitting.
Why tube needs its own blade
Tube is the hardest thing to cut with a reciprocating saw, because the wall is thin and the blade is only in contact with a small arc of it at any moment. A coarse blade drops a tooth into the gap, catches, and strips. This blade carries the fine tooth pitch that keeps several teeth engaged in a thin wall throughout the stroke.
Technique
- Begin on the curve of the tube rather than the top, so the teeth feed in gradually.
- Keep the shoe pressed firmly and pivot the saw through the cut.
- Clamp or support the work. Tube that rings and vibrates will destroy a blade and leave a torn edge.
- Support the falling end so it cannot pinch the blade as you break through.
